Let’s stay positive about peer-to-peer

Anthony Hilton gives a frank assessment of the current state of peer-to-peer lending in yesterday’s Evening Standard, saying some P2P firms are showing signs of strain.

He notes that many of the sector’s pioneers have moved a long way from the original concept, with rule changes making some platforms seem more like collective investment schemes than introductory services for lenders and borrowers.

However, Hilton also says we should note the positive impact P2P has had on the sector as a whole, and resist the temptation to be negative now the honeymoon period is over.
