Growing businesses urgently need funding

Scaleups could make a big contribution to the economy, but urgently need funding to do so, writes Lucy Douglas in The Guardian.
If boosted by just 1%, small businesses could generate 238,000 new jobs in a handful of years, and an extra £38bn for the economy.
The problem is not early-stage startups, but rather businesses at a later stage of their development that are looking for funding to scale up. Such businesses have had an even harder time accessing the right growth finance now that bank overdrafts have largely been reduced.
